How do you win at Chess?

I suck at it! I've tried looking online how to play and how to win it and it's nothing but confusion. Which pieces is more dominating than the others so I don't get some pieces in the way in danger of getting captured? Actually, right now I'm not playing the regular chess game but a chess game for one of Harry Potter's games and it's even more tough because the pieces aren't the same.How do you win at Chess?
www.chess.com has helped me a LOT. I used to be a member of my high school chess club and I recently started getting back into it. I was never any good but the chessmentor on that website has helped me a lot, I accessed it for a week with a trial-premium membership. Even if you don't want to pay for that kind of membership it will get you better by simply playing more often.



Examples of some tips I've learned from that website are :

1) Control the 4 middle squares of the board (allows you to set up combinations more freely without cluster)

2) Don't bring out too many pawns too early (at least have a knight out within your first 4 moves)

3) Examine all checks + captures before you make your move.

4) there is a difference between strategy and tactics. Tactics focuses on winning a piece or two from your opponent in a few moves. Strategy is how you play throughout the whole games (e.x. I have control over dark squares therefore I will be rid of my dark bishop because it's useless. try trading that piece for an opponent's knight)

To cure you're problem forget everything you know and start from complete scratch build a rock solid foundation in the basics%26amp;tactics, learn the endgame, middle game, opening in systematic way that makes sense and works.

If you take the time to really study and apply yourself you'll be surprised at the results.

Playing blitz all day long on a server (which is all people online play) isn't going to help blitz blitz and more blitz is going to do more harm than good.How do you win at Chess?
Go buy yourself a $10 real chess set . Sit down with the instructions and figure out how each piece moves ,how to set up the board then play people who know the game and are willing to teach at the same time they play you for the first 50-100 games. If you catch on and win one prior to the 100th game you might have a chance at getting fair to good at this game.
