How to write a resume for military contractors?

I have worked at the same job as an active duty military and contractor working for 2 different companies. How would I seperate the work history/experience for basically the same job? I did the same thing for all 3 companies. How to write a resume for military contractors?I'm a resume writer, and many people face this conundrum. Same duties, different company name.

In all cases, you'd want to focus on the accomplishments related to a position and company, not simply "what you did" for them (although the two can be deceivingly linked).

In some cases, "what you did" is a given, so you can tread lightly there, favoring instead the quantitative responsibilities you held (i.e, how many people and/or projects you managed over what period of time, any monetary responsibilities and how much over what period of time, etc). P.S. "what you did" can be the short paragraph section underneath your company, job title, years, etc....

In most cases, though, it makes sense NOT to focus on "what you did."

Instead, focus on the outcomes. If you've explored resume writing protocols, you'll find that "outcomes" are also called "accomplishments."

Accomplishments are fantastic ways to demonstrate that you're on your game. And since outcomes have likely been different at your two similar jobs, they should free up any roadblocks you're facing.

Here's how to sort out accomplishments (many people start out feeling like they don't have enough, then end up finding too many). Explore quantitative outcomes from your past positions. List a way you made the place better, or something you led, or an activity or product you enhanced. Then ask yourself, "so what?" Ask yourself what, in terms of numbers/outcomes, made that so special.

You'll soon find an entire list of great outcomes.

Then it's up to you to choose the top 5-8 for each position, rank them, and align them with the needs outlined in a job description.

Be sure to list them as bullet points and voila -- you have yourself a brand new beautiful, metrics-focused resume.

Hope this helps!
