Any good books to read?

I'm looking for new books to read. Any suggestions? I like some action and adventure, historical fiction books, and a little bit of humor. I read the Sherlock Holmes stories, Harry Potter, Jane Austen, etc. I'm a 16 year old girl, but I'm not really that interested in Twilight/Sarah Dessen-esque books.

I've just started reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and it's pretty good. I'm also looking at reading some of these:

The Hunger Games

I don't know if they'll be the best choices for me, though. I usually buy books rather than rent them out of the library, because I don't have enough time to read an entire book from the library. But I don't want to waste money on a book I won't like.

Any suggestions, advice, or reviews would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)Any good books to read?
I thought the Hunger Games was good. I also liked the City of Bones. I thought the whole series in general kind of just resolved well like Harry Potter. And some parts were really funny. But there is some supernatural elements in it like vampires and werewolves but the main characters are shadow hunters. I recently read Graceling by Kristin Cashore and I thought it was great. I'm not sure if you like romance books because this book has some romance in it, but there is action too. It's about this girl who has this "Grace", which is basically a talent, for killing. I haven't read it yet, but if you've read Sense and Sensibility, there is also a Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters (or something like that) which I think is the same author who wrote Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Well you can technically find some books online. It's illegal, but I like to think of it as a library as long as you don't distribute more copies of it. Look up a book on a file sharing website or something.

Public library usually gives 14-21 days, plus renewal.

So, would suggest you a) check out the reviews on http://www.amazon.com b) check out the books from the library, read what you can of first few chapters in the first 14 days, if you like the book c) buy a used copy on amazon or borders, etc.

So here are some varied suggestions.

West with the Night, Beryl Markham; Hemingway's favorite non-fiction book.

The Great Divorce, C. S. Lewis; great character development.

The Overachievers, Alexandra Robbins; good writing; a Yale graduate returns under an assumed name to a whole second senior year at her high school; non-fiction!

Expecting Adam, Martha Beck; a woman in Harvard grad school must choose between having her baby or terminating it; non-fiction; very well written, humorous.

Sacred Psychology of Love, Marilyn Barrick; good insight into the topic.

For Women Only, Shaunti Feldhahn. Gives her research on relationships.

Momo, Michael Ende; mystical story.

The Giver, Lois Lowry; similar in some ways to Plato's "Republic."

Bridge to Terabithia, Paterson; loving insightful.

Jacob Have I Loved, Paterson; ditto.

In a Sunburned Country, Bill Bryson; funny, adventure.

Hidden Camera, Zoran Zivkovic. Award winning light mystery.

The Cat Who Read Backwards, Lilian Braun; light mystery (first in a series).

Carry On, Jeeves, P. G. Wodehouse; light British romance and humor. Great if you like the ambiance. (Series)

The Yoga of Nutrition, O. M. Aivanhov; mystical.

Nokosee: Rise of the New Seminole by Micco Mann. It has the defiant voice of a 17 year old girl who manages to overcome everything thrown at her in the course of the novel which is a lot-- and she does it in a way that would make all girls proud-- not in a superhuman way or through the assistance of some heroic act of a man or a monster but via her own means.

Think of this as Greek mythology lite (less gods, more filling): The King Must Die by Mary Renault. Set in ancient Greece it follows Theseus on a journey of discovery while painting a vivid picture of the times. Loved the descriptions of young uninhibited Greeks running buck naked up hills and through forests and making love among the flowers. The scenes of naked teens jumping bulls with back flips cries out for a cinematic interpretation. Ms. Renault's written a series of historical novels set in this period and all of them are so worthy.

I love Meg Cabot (Heather Wells [upcoming movie]%26amp; Queen of Babble [upcoming movie], and tons of others), Sophie Kinsella's (AKA: Madeleine Wickham) (Shopaholic [movie based on her books] %26amp; Remember Me), Jennifer Weiner (Good in Bed %26amp; Certain Girls), Jane Green (Mr. Maybe) Emily Giffin (Something Borrowed %26amp; Something Blue), Lauren Weisberger (Devil Wears Prada, Chasing Harry Winston), and Candance Bushnell (Sex and the City) books. They are all great authors!

For a young adult/teen Meg Cabot's young adult books. She is the best author. Also best selling. She wrote tons of books including the Princess Diaries (Movies based on her books), Mediator (upcoming movie), 1-800-Missing (TV show based on her books), All-American Girl (up coming movie), Jinx, Airhead and more. She has adult books too, so you can grow with her.
